Twelve miles from Santa Barbara, Goleta is home to beautiful sights, mild weather, and some of the area’s best known institutions and landmarks. It is often associated with the University of California, Santa Barbara and two championship golf courses, but it is home to notable sites such as the South Coast Railroad Museum, Goleta Beach Park, El Capitan and Refugio State Beaches, and the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes. Residents enjoy an average daytime temperature between 60 and 70 degrees year-round in a casual Californian atmosphere. To the west of Fairview Avenue in 1842, Rancho Dos Pueblos included the lagoon, airport, UCSB and Isla Vista extending to the west as far as the eastern boundary of today’s El Capitan State Beach. Originally called “The Good Land” by the Spanish, Goleta is still known for its agriculture and smaller scale farms. Anyone seeking outdoor adventure can fish off Goleta Pier, surf at Campus Point, and hike along the bluffs overlooking miles of coastline as far as the eye can see.
